This only affects visitors from the UK – everyone else can ignore this and please enjoy the rest of your day, or maybe read it and and have a laugh at the situation in the UK.
Dear UK visitors – thanks to the infinite wisdom of your government and the new “Digital economy bill” adult sites will now be required to have “age verification procedures” to make sure that everyone visiting the site is over the age of 18 (or risk being “banned”).
Initially that might not seem like a terrible idea because, of course, kids shouldn’t be watching porn, but unfortunately the idea of a big unnecessary (and unregulated) register of who watches what sort of porn doesn’t really sound too great from a privacy point of view.
Plus at this point nobody really seems to know how it’s going to work, and any of the suggested methods would be easily circumvented…so as usual the whole idea is basically bollocks.
So rather than get tangled up in that mess, we’ve decided on a much simpler course of action. As of the new year we will be blocking all UK visitors from our sites.
Visitors from the UK will be greeted with a page like this one.
Now don’t get me wrong – I have nothing against UK visitors and actually we won’t really be blocking anyone, just IP addresses which originate from within the UK.
Anyone using a VPN or (in some cases) a proxy service, or a service like TOR will be able to access the site just fine, but this is what we need to do to not fall foul of UK law.
Existing & Premium members will be able to log in as usual, this really only affects guest visitors, who will not be able to join from a UK-based IP address (unless they’re using a VPN/proxy or TOR).
Fortunately being the helpful souls that we are, on the “blocked” page there are step-by-step instructions on how to bypass these restrictions and set up a free VPN, or how to access the site using TOR, much like people from china and other oppressive regimes do to bypass their government restrictions.
If you enjoy your porn and think this legislation is a bunch of horseshit and how dare the government tell you (an adult) what you can and can’t look at on the internet then I suggest you sign the petition at Open Rights Group which can be found HERE.
Thank you for your support over the years, hopefully you’ll figure out setting up a VPN (it’s not difficult) and we’ll continue to see you on the site. There’s full instructions on the “You’ve been blocked” page.
If you run into problems ask any teenager for help since they’re likely to be the most clued up on how to set things up (bearing in mind the irony that they’re the ones whom the measures are meant to protect).
